Applications

This USB over fiber extender enables reliable long-distance connection of USB 3.0/2.0 devices in environments where standard USB cables are limited by distance, interference, or installation constraints. Using optical fiber, the system provides stable, high-speed communication for professional and industrial applications.

Typical use cases include remote USB camera deployment, industrial automation systems, data acquisition (DAQ), environmental monitoring, and workstation extension where USB devices need to be placed far from the host computer.

The remote 4-port USB hub allows multiple peripherals to be connected simultaneously, such as barcode scanners, thermal cameras, USB sensors, and control modules, making it suitable for complex system integrations.

USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 Fiber Optic Extender Kit with 4-Port USB Hub

Description

USB 3.0 / 2.0 / 1.1 Over Fiber Optic Extender with 4-Port USB Hub

This USB over fiber extender kit allows you to extend USB 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 devices up to 250 meters (820 ft) over optical fiber, eliminating the traditional 5-meter USB cable limitation. The system consists of a local (host) unit and a remote (device) unit, connected via LC fiber for stable, long-distance transmission.

The local unit connects directly to your computer via USB and requires no external power supply, while the remote unit provides a 4-port USB hub for connecting multiple peripherals simultaneously.

Plug & Play Operation – No Drivers Required

The extender works as a transparent USB link, meaning no drivers or software installation is required. Simply connect the local unit to a USB 3.0 host port, link both units using fiber optic cable, and power the remote unit using the included adapter.

Compatible with:

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Embedded systems supporting USB devices

4-Port USB Hub on Remote Side

The remote unit features a built-in 4-port USB hub, allowing connection of multiple devices at once.

Supports:

  • USB flash drives and external storage
  • Keyboards and mice
  • USB cameras and webcams
  • Industrial sensors and data loggers
  • Dongles and control devices

All ports support mixed USB standards (USB 1.1 / 2.0 / 3.0).

Flexible Fiber Options – Multimode and Single Mode

The kit includes both multimode and single-mode SFP modules, giving flexibility depending on your installation.

Pre-installed:

  • Multimode LC SFP modules (850 nm, duplex, 2-fiber)
  • Supports OM1–OM5 fiber
  • Up to 250 m distance

Included in box:

  • Single-mode LC SFP modules (1270/1330 nm), allowing operation over a single fiber (BiDi)

Modules are easily interchangeable without configuration.

Stable Long-Distance Transmission

Unlike copper-based USB extenders, fiber optic transmission is immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and signal degradation.

Benefits:

  • Full performance maintained across entire 250 m distance
  • No repeaters or additional hubs required
  • Clean point-to-point communication
  • Reliable operation in industrial environments

Power Design

  • Local unit: Powered directly from USB port (no external power required)
  • Remote unit: Powered by included 5 V AC/DC adapter

This design simplifies installation and reduces cable clutter on the host side.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial automation systems
  • Machine vision and USB cameras
  • Remote USB device control
  • Medical and laboratory equipment
  • KVM and workstation extension
  • Surveillance and monitoring setups

FAQ

Does this extender support USB 3.0 speeds over the full 250 meters?

Yes, this model supports full USB 3.0 data rates (up to 5Gbps) over distances up to 250 meters when used with supplied in set fiber modules.

What kind of fiber cables are required?

Supports single-mode (1 fiber, bidirectional LC/UPC SFP, 1270/1330 nm) & multimode (2 fiber LC duplex, 850 nm). MM: OM1–OM5. SM: no APC connectors—use standard blue UPC only. Swap the correct fiber modules for correct fiber – both supplied in a set.

Does it come with a power adapter for remote side?

Yes, it includes a USB-A power cable with AC 100-240V input and DC 5V/5A output. You don’t need to buy a separate power adapter.

Is driver installation required?

No drivers required. The system is fully plug-and-play. Just connect the USB cable and fiber optic link — no software, no drivers. Works on any OS that supports USB peripherals. Remote end acts as transparent USB hub without drivers needed.
