What is DS3/T3 and E3 and what are the differences between T3/DS3 and E3?

What is a T3 or DS3?

T3 is generally referred as DS3. DS3 can handle most of the bandwidth which has intensive applications. DS3 or T3 is a digital communication which can support the data transmission. The rate at which the data can be transmitted ranges from 43 to 45 Mbps. The DS3 line has 672 channels in it and they can act at a speed of about 65 Kbps. The connectivity can be from 3 Mbps to 45 Mbps. There are many types of services either full or fractional and you even have the managed type of service. It provides you the good quality bandwidth.

What is an E3?

E3 is the European term of a T3 circuit. T3 signal is called as T3 in America and E3 in European countries. This is used to transmit the data at a rate of 34 Mbps and it is a digital signal. It has smaller bandwidths when compared with the T3 or DS3 signal.E3 also has fewer sub channels when compared with T3 or DS3. You can find E3 in all the countries (only three countries are in the exceptional list; The United States, Japan and Singapore. The United States uses the T3 instead of the E3. Here we are going to discuss about the differences in the T3 or DS3 and the E3. Nowadays, products like E3 fiber modem, can extend E3 to 120 km distances over fiber and more.

Differences between the T3 or the DS3 and the E3:

We are going to discuss the major differences between the T3 and the E3.

· The first major difference is in the data rate. T3 has the data rate of about 45 mega bits per second whereas the E3 has the data rate of 34 mega bits per second.

· The second difference is that the T3 has 672 channels whereas the E3 has channels lesser than the E3.

· The T3 line modules are supported by the 3 port ATM. And the E3 line modules are supported by the 3 port E3 ATM. The COCX – F3 modules (line) are supported by both the 12 port T3 and E3 frames but the difference is the E3 frames has 12 frame inputs and outputs and the TS has 1 frame input and output. In both the cases the ATM support are either called T3 ATM support or E3 ATM support.

·The T3 provides the higher quality standard of the bandwidth and the E3 provides a lower standard of bandwidth when compared with the T3. Also the T3 provides the higher speed in the data rate than that of the E3. But both can act as internet service provider.

·The majority of the differences lie in the frames too. There are two types of frames in the T3 or the DS3 and the E3. There is also difference in the physical deliveries and the standards of the DS3 or the T3 and the E3.

There are lots of differences between the T3 and the E3. But they do the same work and are known by different names. This statement is some what true.
Last but not least, the level down in speed from E3 is E1, or other words – G.703. So, you can send up to 16 G.703 E1 lines over E3. There is as special product for that – G.703 converter.

Testimonials

Lomoveishiy – Finland

I needed those to connect my PC on the third floor to have internet access in that room, and ISP installed their modem on the first floor only. After dropping fiber patch cables, plugged in all cables into these media converters at both sides, and link came up instantly. Was much easier than I thought!

Raymond – USA

Great experience – units worked straight out of the box – just needed plug in cables and we were done. I also like the possibility to enable jumbo frames, while we do not have a need for this feature at the current moment it’s great to have this option.
