Two optical fibers could transmit over two million simultaneous telephone conversations using modern technology. Optical fiber can serve up to 30 years being immune to moisture, temperature changes and is suitable for underwater use. Optical cable doesn’t contain any copper that can corrode and is not affected by short circuits, power surges or static electricity.

Expansion
While having exactly same cable the system with low data rate can be easily upgraded to a higher data rate system by changing the equipment.
